Frequently Asked
Questions

Can I use ProSoCoustic products to soundproof my room?

Unfortunately acoustic panels from ProSoCoustic (or any other company) are not made to soundproof a room.

ProSoCoustic manufactures Sound Treatment products, which are designed to improve the sound within a room by eliminating sound energy reflections, buildup, and echo.

Sound Proofing typically involves advanced room reconstruction to eliminate sound energy from being able to pass from one space to another.

What do "NRC rating" and "absorption coefficient" mean?

NRC stands for “Noise Reduction Coefficient”, and is a rating given to denote how effective an item is at absorbing sound. NRCs are measured in multiples of 0.05, and typically the higher the number, the more effective the item is at absorbing sound.

An item’s NRC is the average of its absorption coefficients at the following sound frequencies: 250Hz, 500Hz, 1000Hz, and 2000Hz.

An Absorption Coefficient denotes how effective an item is at absorbing sound at a specific frequency. For example, our 1″ WAVEPro panels have an average NRC of 0.80, but an absorption coefficient of 1.09 at the frequency 4kHz.

What panel "thickness" should I get?

While all of our panel options can greatly enhance the quality of your room’s clarity, thicker panels (such as the 2″ WAVEPro or Bass Traps) have a higher absorption coefficient at lower frequencies. A general rule of thumb: if you aren’t experiencing heavy bass/low frequency issues, or are in a room that is 12’x12′ or smaller, 1″ panels will do the trick. If you have a larger room, especially with rumbling bass, we typically recommend 2″ thick panels paired with Bass Traps.
